Denzel Washington film night!

Haven't seen many movies recently. Too busy. Plus, nothing exciting out. Here's what I've attempted to watch recently. Of all these, I only made it through the Incredibles.

Tears of the Black Tiger
Carlo would like this one. Pad Thai retro Western with one foot planted firmly in artifice.

Deja Vu:
This was well-reviewed and seemed quirkily interesting, but why would I expect to like anything by Tony Scott? It was at the laser pointer scene where I couldn't watch this any more—not so much because of the dumbness of the technology, but because of the change in tone of the film from OK to worse.

The Incredibles:
Incredibly well-crafted.

The Illustrated Man:
This oddball from 1969 is a cinematic rendition of Ray Bradbury's sci fi book. Screens like a Twilight Zone episode. Directed by Jack Smight who unsurprisngly directed Twilight Zone episodes.

Natural City:
Unnaturally dull post-Matrix Korean sci fi flick.

Curse of the Golden Flower:
Proof that visual sumptuousness can't compensate for flacid drama.

CHEAP DVDS
BTW if you're looking for some cheap DVDs, check out the Netflix store. They have a lot of new old stuff there for $5.99. I picked up the "beautiful cinematography/sucky film" collection for $5.99 apiece: Love me if you dare, Tideland, November, House of Flying Daggers, Rampo Noir.
